| We took a pair of taxis to see some of the sights.
Cab fares are negotiated before the trip. This trip was to be 10
soles. When we gave the driver a twenty sole bill, he gave back only
7 soles. An argument ensued between the driver and our tour guide.
She is on her cell phone talking to her husband who is in the other
cab, and who negotiated the rates. He arrived and got nowhere with
the driver, so he called in the police. The mounted police had no
real authority, so they called in a traffic police woman. After much
discussion, the police woman negotiated a 50/50 split. We paid 11
1/2 Soles. The driver spent about 1/2 hour arguing for what amounted
to 42 cents.
The Peruvian Presidential Palace can be seen in the background
with the Peruvian flag flying over it. |

| This is a closer view of the
presidential palace. It is well guarded by the National Police.
There is a "Changing of the Guard" Ceremony held each day at noon.
The pictures below are of some of the Guard in their ceremonial
uniforms. The actual ceremony can be seen behind the fence in the
bottom right picture. |
